Long-Term Running Goals:

I would like to keep running ultras into my 60s.

Personal:

Details at: http://www.crockettclan.org/ultras/ultracrockett.pdf Married with six kids and six grandchildren.  Started running at the age of 46 in 2004.  My first race since Junior High days was a 50K. I skipped the shorter road stuff and went straight to ultramarathons.  I started as a back-of-the packer, but have progressed to a top-10-percent ultra finisher.  Wish I would have started running at a much earlier age.  Have had several articles published in national running magazines.  Check out my running adventure blog at www.crockettclan.org/blog

Hit the trail at 3:50 a.m.   34 degrees, very little breeze.  Sluggish, so took it very easy and took a tougher route than usual and climbed up on the ridge by the Ranches, overlooking northern Utah County.  The lights are always incredible.  Without much of a breeze this morning, it was pleasant up there.

PM

Ran ten miles at the Lehi Legacy Center track, 8-minute miles.

3:50am???!!! WOW, you're amazing!!! What time do you get up and go to bed? I'm missing out on life. How often do you do two a day? What do you like about running at the Legacy Center track? I've never done any workout there. Isn't that a rather short track?

From crockett on Tue, Dec 09, 2008 at 17:40:35

To get up at 3:50, I usually have to be asleep by 9:30-10:00. I also catnap on the bus to and from work in SLC. That helps a lot. I rarely do two-a-days. Doing it for two weeks to build up my training before my 24-hour run on Dec 30. Legacy Center Track? Usually only when the weather is bad. The soft surface is much better than pavement. Its better then a treadmill. But this month, again it is to help me get ready for my 24-hour run which will be on a 500 meter track.

Thanks for answering my curiosity about your training. What an interesting 2 weeks schedule you have going.

24 hours on a 500 meter track??!! I am really missing out on life!!! Do you get to change direction every so many hours? Man alive, can't image running in circles!!!

Smooth - they change directions every 2 hours. It is the Across the Years race down in Phoenix - one of my dream races (but I can never get in)

ATY will be a blast. It is quite a party and very social since so many of us know each other from other races. My wife and a kid or two will also be coming down, so we will have a fun time.
